Meet Chelsea Deknecht

Born and raised in Northern California, Chelsea Deknecht has decided to call the Williamsport region her home.

Chelsea Deknecht, junior accountantJust over seven years ago she moved across the country, and four years ago landed a position with JPW Industrial Ovens and Furnaces. While her title is Junior Accountant, Chelsea wears many hats with the company.

In addition to overseeing accounting and purchasing decisions, Chelsea manages the marketing and communications efforts for JPW.

“When it comes to marketing, I can typically plan and schedule out a year in advance,” she says. “But there are days where I certainly need to multi-task – bouncing from spreadsheets to placing ads. Every day is different.”

Chelsea truly enjoys coming to work every day.

She adds, “I am fortunate to be a part of an internationally known, close-knit, family-owned business right here in Lycoming County.”

When Chelsea is not working for the small business launched in 2004 by owners Mike Jameson, Mike Paternostro, and Tim Wagner, she usually is spending time with her husband, step-daughter, and newborn daughter. Chelsea also likes to read and take a cardio-kickboxing class when her schedule allows.

Meet Jeremy Bickel

Jeremy Bickel, test technician

Five years ago, Jeremy Bickel began working at JPW Industrial Ovens and Furnaces as a temp in the assembly department. Not too long after, he moved into a permanent position in the electrical department where he is now a test technician at Plant 2.

Before joining JPW, most of Jeremy’s career was spent building and remodeling in the construction industry.

“I also did a short stint in the tire business after graduating high school,” he remarks. “But I knew it wasn’t something I wanted to do for the rest of my life.”

Jeremy says he loves his job at JPW and works with the best team. He adds, “You spend a majority of life at work, so you need to like what you do and the people you work with.”

While he was born in Williamsport, his family frequently relocated because his father was in the Marines. When his father left the military, they made Blossburg their home, a small borough located in Tioga County.

But something drew him back to Williamsport.

Bickel adds, “I always had a feeling I would return and make roots here.”

He has been married for twenty years and has two children. Recently, his oldest began working at JPW as he saw how much his father enjoyed his job, so he wanted to follow in his footsteps.

When Jeremy isn’t testing the ovens at JPW, he enjoys fishing, woodworking, and spending time with his family.

walt davis of jpw

Meet Walt Davis

walt davis, packer and shipper at jpwAs the last person to inspect your product before it is transported to you, Walt makes sure it is packed and shipped according to customer specification, it is appropriately touched up, and all additional oven accessories are included.

He is JPW Ovens & Furnaces final review of your oven.

Walt Davis has been with JPW for seven years. He began in the assembly area but quickly moved to shipping. In addition to providing a final inspection of each oven and furnace that leaves their Trout Run facility, he also carefully loads every product onto a truck using an overhead crane or forklift.

Walt says the best thing about working for JPW besides the people is the ability to learn new skills. He was well-versed in welding before his arrival but did not know much about the manufacturing process. Now, he is the one teaching new team members about it.

Born and raised in Rose Valley, Pennsylvania, Walt is a graduate of Montoursville High School and is a self-taught musician (guitar, bass, and drums). He also enjoys singing and owns a small in-house recording studio.

“I can make songs just as good as they are on the radio,” he remarks. “And ‘in-house’ literally means in my house.”

When asked what is one thing no one would know about him he indicated that he has a photographic memory.

Walt adds, “It is pretty unique and a talent I sometimes use here at JPW. When someone can’t find a tool, I am the go-to guy that usually knows where it is.”

So, when your oven or furnace arrives, now you know who the last person to see it, inspect it, and load it was – Walt Davis.

ST444

Gas-Fired Option on Universal Cabinet Ovens

Trout Run, PA (October 22, 2019) — JPW Industrial Ovens and Furnaces announced they are now offering a gas-fired option on four of their quick ship universal cabinet ovens. After months of extensive testing, the four models that will offer this option are the ST333A, ST444A, HD496, and the ST216.

JPW Industrial Ovens and Furnaces Offering Gas-Fired Option on Certain Quick Ship Universal Cabinet Ovens

The manufacturing process to create a gas-fired option in any industrial oven or furnace typically would take 12-14 weeks. The amount of time it takes has been cut by over half.

Mike Jameson, with JPW, indicated that they are continuously finding ways to serve their customers better and investing in research and new technology to make that happen.

He added, “We consistently get calls for customers needing their oven or furnace quickly. With lead times being now more important than ever, as a manufacturer, we are responding to that.”

Gas-fired ovens can be used in any type of industrial manufacturing, and are frequently found in companies providing finishing/coating or drying of products.

Employee Spotlight: Jim Wall

It’s baacck!

We wanted to continue our Employee Spotlight series by introducing you to a member of our dedicated and passionate team.  Meet Jim Wall, an electrical and controls engineer, who has been with JPW for nearly 4 years.

Jim Wall, electrical and controls engineerWhere did you grow up?  High School? College? Previous jobs?
Hailing from Williamsport (born and raised), Jim graduated from Williamsport Area High School and began his post-secondary education at Penn College and finished at Wilkes University with a degree in engineering.

Before working for JPW, Jim worked for a lighting technology firm, as well as another oven manufacturer.

Wife?  Children? Pets?
He and his wife, Erin, are proud parents to an 8-year-old son, Zane, and three vizsla dogs, Zada, Zojo, and Zira.

Job at JPW
Jim says the best part of his job is the great team he works with, as well as the new challenges that come along with building custom piece equipment – types of ovens never produced before.

A typical day for Jim varies – one day he is focused on electrical design using AutoCAD software for a new oven and creating a customized oven manual and another day can be dedicated to receiving tech calls for new oven inquiries from customers.

What is one thing no one knows about you?
One thing you may not know about Jim is that he plays the guitar.  He noted, “In high school, I was either going to major in music or engineering.  I chose the latter but continued to play in a band until a few years ago.  While I absolutely love music, as I got older, working full time and playing until the wee hours of the morning – well, it just wasn’t something I could do anymore.”

Standard and Custom Solutions Product Lines

If your company is considering investing in an industrial oven, there are so many options to consider. Let JPW Industrial Ovens and Furnaces make the decision-making process simple. We have dependable, safe and energy efficient ovens to meet your specific need.

Standard Line oven example

Standard Line

JPW Industrial Ovens and Furnaces produces a standard line of stock electric-heated ovens, from cabinet to walk-in models with quick turnaround time. We also produce standard electric-heated and gas heated, non-stock sizes that generally have a longer lead-time.

Custom Solutions Line

Our custom solutions line provides a wide range of options for heat processing applications. Some custom solutions can be a modified standard stock or non-stock size, for a reduced lead-time. Other custom solutions are designed to meet customers specifications of internal size, external size, temperature, or any other specific needs in gas or electrically heated ovens.

Custom oven solution example

Our custom line is driven by process, space and unique requirements that sometimes take a standard product out of play. We modify standards to meet some custom applications when possible. The future of the custom products will be affected by the 3D modeling software. The more models we produce and label standard, the more efficient our engineering team becomes. This will allow us to focus on reducing custom project lead times, therefore, helping JPW better serve our customers.

The Future of our Lines

In the future, JPW will be increasing our standard stock ovens by adding new models with expanded temperature ranges as well as some gas heated options. We are also utilizing a 3D-model software to reduce lead-times on all walk-in ovens up to 650°F in electric or gas. We will also include 3D-models for high-temperature units up to 1400°F to help reduce lead-times across our entire line of standard stock and non-stock products.

If you need an industrial oven, please contact JPW. Once the temperature and size are decided, let us help you determine what solution is right for you. Whether you need a model from our stock line or a customized oven, JPW can meet your needs.

New CAD Platform

New CAD Platform Improves Design Process

visualization of someone using CAD software

Shortening production time and lowering costs is essential for any business in the manufacturing industry. Using the right technology is key to achieving both.

After using a two-dimensional computer-aided design (CAD) platform for several years, JPW Ovens and Furnaces decided to take advantage of new technology to help them work smarter on behalf of their clients.

“After researching different options, Autodesk Inventor was the winner,” says Bryan Wack Engineering Manager of JPW.” We were looking to add a CAD platform that offers three-dimensional tools, and that would help accelerate our overall design process. We are very happy with our decision.”

Autodesk Inventor provides an almost complete illustration of what a product will look like before it is built. In addition to design, if offers simulation, visualization, rendering and documentation tools that are taking JPW’s design and virtual modeling process to the next level.

“It is so easy to use,” Wack adds.”You simply type in product information – internal size, duct size, insulation area, for example — and it basically creates a design itself. Autodesk speeds the process of designing an oven, which will help us get custom-manufactured products to clients faster.”

“Recently, we had a client request an oven design that, with our old software, would have easily taken two to three weeks to complete,” Wack says.”Instead, it took us one.”
